About

Welcome to team Make Your Own’s Team Project blog!

We are a team of 8 new media designers, programmers, artists, thinkers, schemers, and dreamers. It’s the second half of our fourth year at Rochester Institute of Technology, in the frozen wasteland that is upstate New York, and we’re spending it building an interactive installation! Over the next 20 weeks we will work together to  create and implement an interactive multimedia installation in the category of non-mouse interaction for our senior project at RIT. The theme of the project is open ended and the only requirement is that the users’ interaction with the project not involve the traditional approach of a mouse and keyboard. So how do the users interact with the interface then, you ask? Read on! We’re dreaming big.

Cast of Characters

Linzi Bergmann, designer; project manager

I’m a fourth year New Media Designer and I’m loud, have a quirky sense of humor, and love playing games. I came into this project with an open mind and the determination to be project manager. In the future I aspire to be an art director and I am taking this project as a chance to be a creative mind, designer, decision maker, planner, compiler, and most importantly – a listener. My group is amazing and everyone’s ideas are golden nuggets of awesomeness.

Ira Slastenko, designer

I’m pretty much a four year old at heart. I tripped into New Media more or less by accident, but have fallen in love with it since, and it’s more or less ruined my life – I read advertisements because I like the typefaces, and I watch movies for the ending credits. In all honesty though, I couldn’t think of a better profession – I get to have fun at work and get paid for it! Or at least that’s the plan. I also love reading, traveling, and learning new languages, which is why I hope we win some awesome competition and have to travel to Papua New Guinea with our installation to educate the indigenous peoples on the benefits of teamwork in a non mouse environment. Or something equally cool.

Mike Roushey, designer, programmer

Apparently My family name from the 1800s, Rauschemburger, means “Intoxicated Town Dweller”. Which is surprisingly accurate. Aside from a lifetime wasted on video games I certainly enjoy a gentleman’s drink or twelve. New Media type stuff is more or less my Raison d’être, and this project is certainly no exception. There will be nonsensical rants, designering and a not insignificant amount of typing teh c0des. Also I’m Mike Roushey.

Andrea Perry, designer

Andrea enjoys watching people take long romantic walks on the beach, while she leaves behind lewd drawings for them to find upon their return. She informs people that beautiful sunsets means that faeries had a violent battle that day. Faeries’ evaporating blood particles scatter the blue-green light rays of the sun causing our eyes to only see colors from a orange-red light spectrum.

She hopes that even though she works part time on mars as a intergalactic princess warrior fighting evil aliens, that her team members will still receive her top secret coded message contributions for the project. Andrea is still plagued by a constant series of delusional fantasies that frequented her as a child, but at least her mommy still loves her.

Andy Mindler, designer

I am a jack of all trades. I never set out to be anything of the sort; but everything seems interesting and I can’t help but try stuff. Design, Concepting, Painting, 3D, 2D, Animation, Film, Writing, and Code are just some of the things I enjoy doing. I’m hoping by the end of this project that I will have rubbed off a little bit onto each of my teammates. I am attempting to marinate them in my personality so that by the time we leave RIT they will be as corrupted as I am.

Zach Horton, programmer

I am a fourth year New Media Interactive Development student at RIT. I like code and I’m not afraid to admit it. I spend many nights drifting through endless for loops and if statements in my text filled dreams. I am extremely excited about this project and I hope to create the center piece for my portfolio. I look forward to learning processing and also learning something new from each of my super nice, super cool teammates.

Krista Lipps, organization and networking

I’m a fourth year student pursuing a degree in New Media Interactive Development. I have a strong affinity for the balance of form and function, as well as strategizing how best to accomplish a goal. Fueled by peppermint mochas and a desire to save people from boredom, I aim to create an extraordinarily amazing user experience with my fantabulous teammates.

Dan Getta, programmer

Fifth year Interactive Development of New Media undergraduate student. Weird with an even weirder sense of humor. Loves compuer and mind games. Would love to be a 3D environment and character designer for a game studio when graduated. As such wants to throw in as much technical “Awe factor” as possible to make the project really shine. While a poor planner, when it comes down to actually doing work, gets stuff done.
